Description / Ficus Stella Fig

One of the earliest fruit trees to be cultivated, indigenous to regions from Asiatic Turkey to northern India, and grown widely in Mediterranean countries, the fig is a temperate species that prefers full sun, dry weather during fruiting, and some winter chill. In colder climates, Ficus Stella Fig has the ability to ripen but should be planted in a warm, dry location and generously mulched before winter.

Ficus Stella Fig grows well in a wide range of soil types and have ornamental value in the garden, or container, growing as a bush or small tree, from 8 feet to 10 feet high. Deciduous leaves are broad and deeply lobed.

Fruit is borne on spring new growth and, depending on cultivar and climate, generally ripens from August to October. Figs can be allowed to dry on the tree and gathered after falling, or they can be picked ripe and allowed to dry. Frequent turning during the drying process improves the quality of the fruit.

Ficus Stella Fig produces large green fruit with striking purplish-red flesh. Sweet and delectable, it can be eaten fresh or dried. It can also be canned or preserved. The fruit contains significant amounts of calcium, potassium, phosphorus, and iron.

Drought tolerant, usually satisfied with natural rainfall, this tree is a good choice for xeriscapes and water-wise gardens. Deer Resistant.

Ficus Stella Fig is a non-GMO item and is grown with sustainable and ecologically sound growing practices.
